Weekly Homework Routine

Nightly Assignments:
The students in my reading class will have nightly reading Monday through Thursday.  This homework will include:

1. Read the book of the week from our Being a Reader program.  If this is an extension week, there may be two books included in the homework baggie.  Both books should be read on these weeks.

2. Word Study Spelling practice - These words are specifically chosen in conjunction with the book of the week from the Being a Reader program.  The students will be reading books that have these feature words present.

3. Book-Based Sight Word review - These words are collectively gathered as we progress through the Being a Reader program.  Use the word cards as review nightly.

4. RtI (Response to Intervention) Sight Word Envelope - These are sight words that your child is working on in class in order to meet their intervention goals.

Optional Homework:
The students will be given optional homework to complete as part of the learning process.  These assignments are connected to the learning that is taking place in the classroom.  Students who choose to complete these tasks will be rewarded with Homework Tickets that can be placed in a drawing for prizes at the end of each week.  I encourage the students to complete these tasks and hope that parents will use them as instructional support within the home.
