Mrs. Morton's Third Grade
I'm a third grade teacher at Huddleston Elementary School, my "home" when I began getting my education. This is my 9th year teaching. I went to SRHS and graduated in 2004 and then graduated from Radford University in 2008 and came back to Huddleston where I bought a house on our family farm. I married my husband Ben in June of 2012 and we have one outgoing little son, Bentley. We are also expecting a little girl in October named Lainey. We have 3 children that bark as well - Striker, Miles and Kyser.
I began teaching in 2008 at Boonsboro Elementary. For 4 years I taught kindergarten. In 2012 I earned "Teacher of the Year" for Boonsboro Elementary School. In the fall of 2012, I transferred to Huddleston. I began teaching 3rd grade that year. In my 3rd year here, I taught 5th grade and learned how to "flip" the classroom - how fun! I also earned "Teacher of the Year" last year. I absolutely loved the model and now that I'm back in 3rd grade, we are now "flipping" 3rd grade!
This year, we are implementing the flipped classroom model of learning in third grade. A flipped classroom is a classroom where foundational learning is assigned as homework in the form of watching videos or reading/highlighting notes. Students gain background information about new topics and come to class ready to practice and extend their knowledge on the topic. It's really innovative and exciting!
